So you've got your blog up and running, your ready for the world to hear what you have to say, now you just need the traffic to start coming and your ready to rock and roll!!! Problem is - you have no money for advertising.
This happens to be the predicament that I'm in right now. So I've been doing my research and decided that I'm going to try to advertise this blog with as little cash as possible. I've been checking around and have decided to come up with a list of free marketing ideas, I'm only going to try a few at a time so as to keep this as scientific as possible, I'll  then report back my success and failures. I was just approved for my AdSense account today, so I only have information on what my blog has done so far - 3 impressions and $0 earned. So with that being said here are the first three ideas:
1) MySpace, Facebook, Twitter. It seems that everyone these days is somehow associated with one of these social networking sites.  We have friends that we will never meet however, we talk to them all the time online.  Tell them about your site!!! I figure this is going to be a no-brainer and at the end of all my comments and blogs, putting the link to the blog on it.  2) Search Engine submission. I initially signed up directly through Google by typing in Google search engine submission. The very first link was directly from Google, after clicking on it, they had me sign in using the same information I use for my AdSense account.  It then asked me for my URL (http://canwemakeanymoneywithblogs.blogspot.com) and gave me two options to verify my account. I chose the html option, which means they had me copy this html code and place it on my site, I then verified and I was done.  The nice thing about Google is that signing up information directly through them will give me information on who's coming to my site, how they found it, etc.  The next thing I did was logged out of that and typed in yahoo search engine submission, again I went directly through them, they had me sign in with my yahoo email information, and said that they will send whatever their site crawler is called and it may take up to six weeks.  I figured those are the two biggest search engines and I'm most concerned with getting listings from them so I used www.submitexpress.com/submit.html to submit to the smaller search engines, it didn't cost me anything and took only about 3 seconds to enter in my URL and email address.
3) Fliers. I know this sounds kind of old school, but I figured what the hey, it'll give a little bit of visibility to my site since I'm not expecting to be at the top of any search engine results in the near future.   I'm going to try a few different methods to see what works, if any, and what doesn't.  There's a couple of different methods I'm going to use.  The first method will be, a super sized bold heading and then tear off tabs at the bottom, its easy to keep track of how many people actually cared enough to pull off a tab and put it in their wallet or purse. The next method I'm going to try is actually making full size fliers that people will grab and place in their purse or wallet, again, an easy way to see if anyone actually grabbed any, just count the number of missing fliers.   Lastly, I'm going to place fliers up around campus and see if anyone decides to jot down the address.
So were going to give this around a week as I figure that is adequate enough time to see some results to report on.
